When I was a little girl, I knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to be a teacher. I loved learning. I loved teaching. I loved school. I knew that I wanted to teach others and hopefully instill a love of learning in the youth I teach.
I went to college and graduated with an elementary teaching certificate. I loved teaching. I have taught all ages and subjects ranging from 2nd grade through 6th grade. Teaching was my passion. I loved it.
Then I became pregnant, moved cross country, and met my son for the first time. I knew that I wanted (and needed) to be MOM first and teaching others could wait.
I have been a stay-at-home mom for over 6 years. I have been using my teaching skills teaching my boys life skills as well as academics. My degree is used on a daily basis… just outside the classroom.
The great thing about being a teacher is sharing the love of learning. I believe my boys have caught that gift. They are always asking questions, eager to learn a new trick, game or fact.
Technology today is pretty impressive. We have used many different websites and manipulatives to supplement what is being taught at school (or at home with my younger two). We frequently use starfall, hooked on phonics and education bug.
My children love to do “school on the computer”. I think it gives them a break from Mommy teaching/talking and lets them play games while learning. I love that my oldest can supplement what he learns at school by playing kindergarten math games online.
Play+Learning=Win!
Many sites and programs have ways that as a parent you are able to see a report of the areas where your child struggles as well as excels.
Thank goodness for games and technology to spice up this flash card loving, workbook toting, book work teaching Mama! My boys need action, games and variety in their education. I am thankful for online resources to help enforce and teach that learning is fun!

Hi Rachel! First of all, congratulations for having such a wonderful blessing. Teaching is indeed the noblest or professions and you executed it quite well! My mom was a public school teacher as well and I feel your passion towards it because my mom did the same thing to us. It’s nice that you incorporate virtual learning since most kids nowadays are into the Internet. It’s a great opportunity to learn in a different way.
