Motivation Monday: The Plan

by Rachel on January 9, 2012 · 0 comments

The past few weeks my motivation level has been very low.  I have been held captive by a nasty bug since the beginning of December; leaving me coughing, breathless, wheezing and in constant (rib) pain.  To say that I have been a fitness inspiration or motivational is a grave understatement.

My plan has been to rest, recoup and heal.  Any and all my fitness goals have been put on hold.  I had a very detailed fitness and running plan organized and mapped out.  I was on target for a PR and excited for the possibility to rock my runs in 2012!

Then I got sick… a hacking bronchitis and severe rib bruising pain sick.  Plan A failed…. at least postponed.

Plan A

I am slowly but surely on the mend.  Walking at a brisk pace winds me.  Breathing deep cleansing breaths are still painful in my ribs.  But I am slowly healing and finding my groove.

I am finding my drive and motivation.

My plan A failed, but I am excited to try the next letter: Plan B.

When plan A fails, remember there are 25 more letters.

At this point, my fitness plan is pretty simple: move.  Walking at a brisk pace is a challenge.  I lose my breath and when I attempt to catch it I have to be careful with how deep I breathe in (rib pain).  When I walk fast (I am not even thinking about running yet) the jarring motion of me hitting the pavement causes pain in my ribs.

Yes, this can be seen as an excuse… but I have learned a very important lesson of listening to my body.  I am focusing on peace in 2012… peace with my body… peace with my circumstances.  If God has called me to slow down and heal – rest, I am going to slow down.

With all the new year plans and goals underway (and many have already failed and given up), please remember that you can always begin again. Start a new.  Scrap your plan A and begin Plan B… or Plan Q!

Keep moving forward and never give up!
