Happy Friday and welcome back to FitSpiration Friday! I am giddy with excitement to introduce you to my amazingly inspirational fitness friend, Pamela! I met Pamela last summer through an online fitness community and she has inspired me on a daily basis. Her determination, drive, and consistency is inspiring.
She has run multiple 5K’s, is an avid cross fit junkie, and is a Dave Ramsey graduate. Who says fitness inspiration has to only be physical? Pamela is an inspiration to me on multiple levels of the fitness spectrum!
Tell me a little bit about your fitness journey.
My fitness journey started the summer of 2009 almost a year after I had my 4th baby. The weight was not coming off!
I started attending a water aerobics class at the YMCA. After going with some friends for a while I started to feel better and I wanted to try more classes. I started with Yoga and then moved into circuit training classes and then boot camp where I met a ton of new friends and my current trainer Shaun McCrary. From boot camp I began incorporating Spin, Zumba and Taebo.
My goal became to be fit enough to walk into any class at any time of the day and join in. I was accomplishing this goal! Along the way I joined the sisterhood of Mamvation. What a huge support network!
I began running some 5Ks and then was challenged by The Spartan Race which is a 5K with obstacles.
In the meantime, I attended Bikram Hot Yoga that a friend suggested to me.
My support network of friends at the YMCA just kept growing. It was so awesome to have that support network!
Shaun McCrary had left the YMCA to run a Crossfit gym. My friends urged me to check it out and I did try my 3 free classes and then bought a 10 visit punch card. I was looking for more help with my Spartan Race training.
In April the Crossfit gym had a contest to see who could lose the most body fat in a 6 week period. This is when I became consistent with my Crossfit training. It paid off because I won and I have been there ever since!
I love the variety of work outs and anyone can do it no matter your fitness level or your age!
I have spent 2011 running one 5K per month and I have 2 races to go to complete the year! I tried my second obstacle course race the Beach Palooza this past month and had a blast.
This year I have also run a couple of 10Ks. I’m just having a lot of fun challenging myself and being up for anything! I’m learning more about how to stretch and taking rest breaks, days off to recover and nutrition…nutrition…nutrition.
What is your fitness LOVE?
I do love Crossfit! That is where my heart is because it makes me want to be better. Some days are great and some days just stink! It’s always a challenge and I never just skate through a work out. It’s an ALL over body work out that just kicks my behind most days. I love that I can track my progress too. To top it off we get to visit with a French Bulldog puppy named Phoebe on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She brings all of us so much joy!
What is your ONE piece of fitness advice you find helpful to keep you motivated?
To NOT be so hard on myself. It’s ok to take a rest day and allow your body to recover. You can come back the next day rested, stronger and faster than before!
