Hello! I am going to be upfront and honest with you, I am exhausted! This week has really taken a toll out on me.
-
At mile 2 the course was not marked and many of us ran off course (a considerable distance 0.4 miles!!).
-
There were only 3 water stations during the whole race.
-
Those water stations only included water.
-
It was HOT!
-
It was SUNNY!
-
It was HILLY!
-
THIS Mama was NOT prepared for those conditions. Next time I plan on bringing my own water and gu/sports bars!
-
BodyGlide is GOOD!
-
Chaffed Crotch is NOT GOOD!
I found that I ran out of energy around mile 7. I was hot, I was thirsty, I was NEEDING some fuel for my body.
You cannot out train poor nutrition!
I did finish with a time of 2 hours 21 minutes.
I am content with that finishing time, considering I did walk bunch and the conditions (& chest cold)!
My next #Commit2Fit Challenge/Goal was to complete a full marathon. I think at this time I am going to revise that goal… to continue racing… but focus on the shorter (more doable races for ME) at this time. This mama is spent!
Successes
~ Ran and completed my 1/2 marathon
Challenges
~ Must drink more water!!
Goals
~ Chug! Chug! Chug! Must drink MORE water!!
~ Continue to find balance with my nutritional needs and food intake!! You can’t out train poor nutrition!!
~ While in Missouri this week, find time to get out to run and encourage my parents to do the same!
**
#Mamaguns Challenge: I slacked off this week due to my not feeling well. I will jump right back on when I return from visiting family
#Movement Challenge: I was intentionally (sweaty) active only 3 days this week: 3 hours 27 minutes (207 minutes total)
#Hydration: I need to do a better job of hydrating my body – espically when I am not feeling well and still nursing (and running in crazy heat!)
#VeggieContessa: I love my fruits and veggies, but I still struggle with portion size and how to incorporate 7-8 servings a day.

WOW… you are unbelievable! I’m so impressed with your accomplishment and love all that you learned… hopefully I’ll remember it all by the time I attempt a 1/2! You are AWESOME and AMAZING!!!
Good luck this week with the Mamavation campaign and I hope you feel MUCH MUCH better!!! (so, did the vicks on your feet help at all???) {{HUGS}}

GooD job Rach! You did great!! I hope you feel better soon!!
Steph aka FitMominTraining says
Great job! You did it!! I’m really surprised that there were only 3 water stations and that none of them had energy drinks, especially given your hot weather/climate. When I do my long runs, I always have sport beans with me, as a just in case. Especially in the summer when the heat is intense!
I hope you feel better soon. I can’t wait to see how you rock your next half! You totally inspire me to get off my bum and MOVE!!
Greta says
Woohooo to you!! You so could have bagged it because you’re sick and you didn’t!! You tenacious broad!!
Love sports beans, like Steph and Shot Bloks are yum. The Gu I can’t do but I know it works really well.
You know you’re my running hero, right? You and Janice!

amazing job on even FINISHING the race with being sick!! I would have chickened out if I had a cold. Having a cold makes it hard to breathe!! EESH!!!!

You did very well and were on track with your training pace despite the silly conditions and being sick this past week.
I have to do events with fuel belts only because of my allergies and not knowing what is in the electrolyte drinks. Last year I volunteered with a local marathon that happened on an unseasonably hot day. They ran out of water as the winning marathoners were finishing and half-marathoners were crossing the line. There was a 45 minute wait for more water and the paramedics were responding to issues all over the course. I have sworn to myself to be paranoid and self-sufficient after witnessing how UGLY that scene turned. I have also helped at events with nasty electrolyte drinks. I helped out one in August in which a runner handed me back the drink and said, “I would not give that to my dog.” LOL! Fuel belts that you fill yourself for the win!!!
Shannon says
I think I tell you this every week lol.. I want to be like Rachel! haha. You ROCK! I have heard a lot of good reviews on fuel belts like Kia mentioned. Maybe you can get a hold of one of those to help you with your next half so there arent any unexpected hiccups! Great job Rachel!
Lisa @ljenator says
Hey Baby Girl! I am so proud that you got up and ran this race, even though you felt nasty! You did great, and I just LOVE YOU! You’re such and inspiration to all of us out there who just don’t feel like getting up and moving today. I’m going to remind myself, daily. If Rachel can get up and run a half marathon while she’s sick, then i can get up and get in an hour of workout while I’m perfectly healthy.
THAT is what Mamavation is all about, and you know what.. you’ve just defined it for me! 🙂
I LOVE YOU BABE!!!!

Hey Hun!
Sorry about the cold last week… from where I’m sitting it looks like you kicked A LOT of booty!
I am excited for you to keep us posted on training for a full marathon… I want to be a runner SO BAD! Working on it slowly – the best way 🙂
You’re such an inspiration! Thanks for all the support!
P.s. what is that nifty running graph all about? And where can I get one? I think it would help me analyize my runs…
<3

Congrats on your run and being a finalist!!! You are a huge inspiration! Keep up the awesome work!
p.s. if you have some problems with chaffing try the new lanacane anti chaffing gel…I have been using it for my disabled daughter who kept getting chaffing on the outside of diaper area and it works great…it feels so soft after.
Danise says
Wow! A cold. A garage sale. (congrats on it being successful) and then a 1/2!!! Hot. Hills. Sun. Limited water. Not a great combo when running a 1/2. You are amazing! Of course you are exhausted! Thank you for all the support and encouragement you give us!!

great job at doing your race so proud of you, i remember a 5k walk i did nearby was a wreak not only did they have only like 1 water station but the miles werent marked hardly at all, they didnt stop traffic well and the runners and walkers weren’t seperated the result was that when i was trying to keep my pace up id have to move off the path to allow the runners to past and that got annoying.
hope you have a great week and feel better hugs
