Day 18: Social Pressure
Learn how to deal with situations where people try to make you eat.
SAS – Sabotage Avoidance Strategies
- At social gatherings eat slowly. Start last and make it last.
- Consider eating something before you go out because you don’t want to arrive at a special event starving.
- Sit down to eat then you’ll be more aware of starting and finishing.
- If it’s a party, you could be the person who starts everybody dancing.
- If you’re drinking alcohol, don’t let anyone top up your glass. Wait until you’ve finished one before starting another that way, you’ll know how much of a hangover you’re entitled to.
- When you’ve had enough just stop and explain you’re full.
Remember, this is your life, your body, and you decide what goes in it. If social pressures to eat have brought you down in the past it really doesn’t matter because you’re free to make up a whole new set of rules for dealing with them in the future. Your circumstances might have change, the people around you might not change but you can change and you are changing.
